Mind blown

Today we checked out one of the most quintessential parts of Thai culture by going to visit two temples. The first was the Golden Buddha. It was in the heart of Chinatown, which is like ours in the state but on steroids. It's exactly how you picture a Chinatown in Asia! Busy, busy, busy!
Anyway, the golden Buddha was amazing and made of 5.5 tons of 18 karat gold. It's hard to imagine when you're standing in front of it. It was so amazing to step into a culture so different than your own and witness locals praying to the Buddha and interacting with monks. Our next stop was the Reclining Buddha. This was even more breathtaking! It is the third largest temple in Asia. It's so large you can't get a whole picture of it.
I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I'm halfway across the world in Asia! We now are about to make our way to the train station to embark on our 13 hour train ride to the northern city of Chiang Mai! Elephants here we come!

Peace, love, and elephants,

Melanie
